“Enriching and Connecting our Island Community”

What’s new for July & August 2021??

A lot of new and exciting things have been and are continuing to happen this summer. Washington is starting to open back up and artists are able to gather again. So what does that mean? That means more events, more classes, more art gatherings, more artsy fun!

So what’s new and what’s happening?

Upcoming Event: A community Plein Air art opportunity as a part of the “Pickleball and Popsicles” event on July 24th.

Come and sketch or paint! All of the park activities are free. Instruction, demonstrations and popsicles are planned from noon to 4. Come anytime but it would be great to have an artist gathering close to 2:00. Come early and get free instruction that happens every hour.

June & July’s Artist of the Month: Darlene Klister

Darlene Klister

Picture yourself sitting in a studio looking out at a forest. Live-edge wood surrounds the frame of your view. There is original artwork on the walls, finished jewelry in a case, and other projects in varying stages of creation scattered about you. This is where Darlene Klister puts her visions into form and where she can teach you to release your inner artist. Read More…

An artist lost but never forgotten: Phillip McCracken (1928-2021)

Longtime Guemes Island resident and art legend, Phillip McCracken died in June of this year. His art legacy is primarily composed of sculptures, many of which are found as public art throughout the region. Next months history feature will be about the life and artistic legacy of Phillip McCraken. Also a map showing the locations of his public artwork will be included which will allow you to go in search of these treasures.

August’s Upcoming Public Art Feature: “Birds”

Have you seen any bird public art pieces on Guemes? We would love to feature it next month! Please send us your bird public artwork pictures to guemesislandart@gmail.com with the subject PUBLIC ART.
